So… as crazy as it sounds, YES…I did take two Saturdays off in August to go on vacation with my partner. We knew a long time ago that we wanted to go North camping. He loves to fish and I was really missing my connection with nature. I didn’t get a chance to camp last year so it was time. This was one of the best vacations I’ve had… and much needed. I’ve been feeling a little too stressed lately. Too plugged-in and really busy. Don’t get me wrong, I love to be busy but it’s important to take a break and recharge 🙂
We went to Sucker Gut Lake, an appendage of Lady Evelyn Lake area located a little north of Temagami. Such a gorgeous area!! I can’t say enough. We found a beautiful island to camp on and toured the waterways everyday. Loons, frogs, humming birds, waterfalls, rock….water. We had great weather. A little rain..we got caught a couple of times but survived. Aired out and dried up *lol. There were really no bugs to speak of either (*THANKFULLY). Heavy bugs and rain contribute greatly to the demise of my cheery, “yay-lets-sleep-outside-and-go-to-the-washroom-under-a-tree” attitude. ;} I really thought about not taking my camera. Just to really give myself the chance to completely unplug. Hmmmm…… could I really leave it home and consider the experience 100% fulfilling? NO. For me, it would be like taking off my left arm. So glad I took it.
Two things happened that I didn’t expect. I caught my first Walleye AND I drove the boat. I usually get too bored with fishing. I’m a results-oriented kind of person and sitting….and sitting…… and sitting, waiting… and waiting for something to happen doesn’t feel “resulty” enough for me so in the past I’ve started to draw little imaginary patterns on the top of the water with my pole or give up all together and read. This time I hung in and it paid off!! Exciting…. even though we didn’t keep him.
Driving the boat was another seemingly unattainable task. I’ll explain…
When I was young, I went with my mother to an afternoon party of some sort. All adults there – I got bored. The owners of the house convinced me that I should drive around on the small-ish John Deere tractor outside. That I couldn’t hurt anything….lots of property and open space. (this was Thunder Bay, they do stuff like that up there). Off I go. Within 5 minutes I smash into a tree and break the axle in half. *lol I was mortified!!! ….and needless to say, SHY to ride/ drive/ start/*touch, anything with a motor ever again, (except a car).
So, that was really fun. Didn’t go too far but just far enough to get over my paranoia. :0)))
Awesome time. Totally recharged and feeling great….ready to begin my busiest part of the year!!!
